Overview

Jacksonville State University, also referred to as JSU, is a coeducational, public university located in Jacksonville, Alabama, United States. The University was established in 1883 as Jacksonville State Normal School. In 1930, the name was changed to Jacksonville State Teachers College. In 1957, it was renamed to Jacksonville State College. In 1967, JSU received its present name and was recognized as a university. The University's campus encompasses approximately 450 acres of suburban land.

The University has the following colleges and schools:

The campus is home to a number of Greek-letter fraternities and sororities including Alpha Xi Delta, Phi Mu, Alpha Omicron Pi, Delta Chi, Phi Mu Alpha, and Sigma Phi Epsilon.

The University's sports teams are called the Gamecocks. The official mascot of JSU is the Gamecock. The University sponsors tennis, football, baseball, basketball, track and field, cross country, and volleyball.
