Jefferson Community College, also known as JCC, was established in 1966 as the Jefferson County Technical Institute. The first classes were held on September 23, 1968, with 320 students. It was renamed to Jefferson Technical College in 1977. The college settled on its present name on July 1, 1995. The college offers a wide variety of degrees and certificate programs in diverse areas of study and is organized into several academic departments.
JCC includes a number of on-campus student organizations such as the Association of Information Technology Professionals, Fine Arts Club, Phi Theta Kappa, Automation Society, Society of African American Culture, and Students against Driving Drunk. It also publishes a weekly newsletter called the "Newsbreak."
JCC also provides many scholarship programs including the Alumni Scholarships, Bergholz Community Foundation Scholarship, Board of Trustees Academic Scholarship, Arthur J. D'Anniballe Scholarship, and Thomas George Scholarship.
