Jewish Theological Seminary Of America

Jewish Theological Seminary of America, JTS, is a private academic center of Conservative Judaism that was founded in 1886. JTS was established through the efforts of Dr. H. Pereira Mendes and Dr. Sabato Morais – two distinguished rabbis. The seminary held its first class in 1887. JTS is comprised of the following schools:

  • Albert A. List College of Jewish Studies
  • H.L. Miller Cantorial School and College of Jewish Music
  • The Graduate School
  • The Rabbinical School
  • The William Davidson Graduate School of Jewish Education

Jewish Theological Seminary of America has numerous organizations and clubs run by student leaders including the Rabbinical School Student Organization (RSSO), List College Student Council (LCSC), Graduate Student Organization (GSO), Davidson Student Organization (DSO), and Cantorial School Student Organization (CSSO).

Samuel Schafler, past president of Hebrew College; Ben-Zion Gold, Rabbi of Harvard Hillel; and Lee I. Levine, Scholar of Ancient Judaism are some of the notable graduates of the seminary.
