Lamar Institute Of Technology

Lamar Institute of Technology, also known as LIT, is located in Beaumont, Texas, United States. It was established in 1946 and known as the Division of Vocations. In 1955, it was renamed to Lamar School of Vocations. It became part of Lamar University in 1972 and was renamed to College of Technical Arts. Later on, the name was changed to Lamar University Institute of Technology. In 1995, it became a separate institution as the Texas State University System absorbed Lamar University. The institute adopted its current name in 1999.

The Student Government Association of LIT is the representative body responsible for the student's overall development. The Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society also plays a significant role and encourages the academic achievements of students. In addition, there are over 140 registered student organizations at LIT. The institute also has a student-programming board that organizes several programs and extracurricular activities such as Diversity Week, Homecoming, African American History Month, Poetry Night, Mardi Gras Celebration, and many more.
