Overview
Loyola University New Orleans is a private, co-educational Jesuit university, which bears the name of the Jesuit patron Saint Ignatius of Loyola. Established in 1904 as Loyola College, it was chartered as a university in 1912. The campus is spread across an area of around 24 acres. Loyola University is organized into the following five colleges:
- College of Humanities and Natural Sciences
- College of Social Sciences
- College of Music and Fine Arts
- College of Law
- The Joseph A. Butt, S. J., College of Business
Loyola University houses several organizations, such as the Student Government Association and the Loyola University Community Action Program. The university is home to eight fraternities and seven sororities. Athletics teams at Loyola are nicknamed the Wolfpack. In 2008, the U.S. News & World Report ranked Loyola as the fifth best institution among regional universities in the south.
