McNeese State University

McNeese State University is located in Lake Charles, Louisiana, United States. It was established in 1939 as a division of Louisiana State University (LSU). It was originally named Lake Charles Junior College. It was granted university status in 1970. The main campus is spread across an area of more than 120 acres. McNeese offers more than 80 degree programs in diverse areas of study. The university is organized into the following academic divisions:

The University's newspaper is known as The Contraband. McNeese has an active Greek life. There are several fraternities and sororities on campus which are governed by the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Panhellenic Association, and Interfraternity Council.

Housing and Meals

McNeese State provides on-campus housing for 826 of its 7,356 (full-time) students (as of 2008-2009).

Students may purchase a meal plan which includes 19 meals weekly.

Athletics

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Southland Conference for major sports.

The school offers financial aid for athletes. Of students receiving athletic financial aid, 161 male students received the aid (men were 59% of those receiving aid) and 113 women were awarded financial aid based on athletics (representing 41% of students receiving such aid) .
