Mesa State College

Mesa State College was established in 1925 as Grand Junction State Junior College. It adopted the name Mesa College in 1937. The number of students registered at the college exceeded 1,000 in 1961. In July 1974, MSC was authorized to provide baccalaureate degrees, and in July of 1996, to provide masters in business administration.

Mesa State College is a public, liberal arts college that offers associate and bachelors degrees in business administration. Apart from its main campus in Grand Junction, Colorado, Mesa State College also operates a campus in Montrose and a vocational institute called Western Colorado Community College. The college’s athletic teams are known as Mavericks and participate in the NCAA Division II. Some of the famous alumni of the college include Brendan Donnelly, Major League Baseball player, and actor Ricky Schroder, who starred in NYPD Blue.

Mesa State provides on-campus housing for 1,181 of its 5,155 (full-time) students (as of 2007). The school requires freshmen to live on campus.

Mesa State Athletics

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. Mesa State is in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference for major sports.
