Overview

Miami University is a coeducational, public university located in Oxford, Ohio, United States. It was founded in 1809 as The Miami University; however, the word "The" is no longer used in the name. The University has four campuses and stretches over more than 2000 acres of urban and suburban land.

Miami University has six academic divisions, which are as follows:

  • School of Education, Health, and Society
  • School of Fine Arts
  • Graduate School

Miami University is home to a large number of fraternities and sororities. Approximately one-third of the college students are members of these Greek letter organizations. Some notable fraternities and sororities are Alpha Kappa Psi, Phi Alpha Delta, Kappa Kappa Psi, Alpha Omicron Pi, Delta Tau Delta, and Alpha Phi Alpha.

The sports teams are called the Miami Redhawks. The official mascot is Swoop the RedHawk. The University sponsors basketball, cross country, field hockey, ice hockey, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, volleyball, synchronized skating, track and field, and tennis.

Room and Board

Miami University-Oxford provides on-campus housing for 7,275 of its 17,430 (full-time) students (as of 2009-2010). The school requires freshmen to live on campus.

Students may purchase a meal plan which includes 21 meals weekly.

Athletics

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Mid-American Conference for major sports.

The school offers financial aid for athletes. Of students receiving athletic financial aid, 214 male students received the aid (men were 59% of those receiving aid) and 148 women were awarded financial aid based on athletics (representing 41% of students receiving such aid) .
