Overview
Midlands Technical College, also known as MTC, traces its origin to the foundation of the Richland Technical Education Center, or Richland TEC, in 1963. The Richland-Lexington Counties Commission for Technical Education was formed in 1969, and the name of Richland TEC was changed to Midlands Technical Education Center. It merged with the Columbia Technical Education Center, which was established in 1947, and Palmer College in Columbia on March 21, 1973, and formed Midlands Technical College on July 1, 1974. The college is part of the South Carolina Technical College System. MTC is divided into the following academic departments:

MTC has a number of student clubs and organizations. Some of these are the African-American Student Organization, Entrepreneurship Club, International Relations Club, Office Systems Technology Club, Students in Free Enterprise, Student Dental Hygiene Association, Student Nurses’ Association and Surgical Technology Club.
