Overview
The Minneapolis College of Art and Design, also abbreviated as MCAD, was founded in 1886. It is a private four year and post graduate college which specializes in visual arts. The college was originally named as Minneapolis School of Fine Arts. In 1914 it was renamed as Minneapolis School of Art and relocated to its present campus at Stevens Avenue in the downtown area. In 1970, the college was finally named Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
The MCAD offers the students with a wide range of majors and specializations leading to a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts or Science as well as for a master’s degree in Fine Arts. The specializations offered by the college are animation, advertising, graphic design, photography, sculpture, brand marketing, public relations, entrepreneurship and project management. The masters course in fine arts offered by MCAD is a mentor based program for graduated students.
MCAD has a vibrant student life offering many clubs and organizations such as 3D club, Anime club, Green club, Film club, Photo club, Social club and Illustration club. The college has a radio station called Radio MCAD. The MCAD also has athletic teams for volleyball, soccer and softball.
