Overview

Minnesota State University, Mankato is a public, coeducational university located in Mankato, Minnesota, United States. It was established in 1868 as Mankato State Normal School. It was renamed to Mankato State Teachers College in 1921, Mankato State College in 1957, and Mankato State University in 1975. Finally, in 1998, it received its present moniker. The University, with its associated schools and colleges, has an urban campus stretching across nearly 300 acres of land.

Notable alumni of the University include Jennifer Hudspeth, Miss America 2007, Minnesota; Cedric Yarbrough, actor; Jim Dilling, high jumper, 2007 USA Outdoor Champion; and Michael Martin, Chancellor of Louisiana State University.
