Overview
Mississippi College, nicknamed MC, is located in Clinton, Mississippi. It is a private Christian university, which offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in several fields of study. MC was originally formed as Hampstead Academy in 1827 and is the oldest college in Mississippi. After several name and status changes, it was given its present name in 1830. MC enrolls more than 4,500 students annually. U.S. News & World Report and the New York Times included MC among the best colleges of the nation. In addition to the main campus in Clinton, MC has several other satellite campuses located in Madison, Mississippi, and Jackson.
MC's Law School began as the Jackson School of Law in 1930 and become a part of Mississippi College in 1975. The school notes that its purpose is: "to integrate a theoretical and practical legal education with Christian principles." The Law School is located in downtown Jackson, where the school reports that its students can take advantage of the proximity to private firms, government agencies, non-profit organizations and large corporations. The school offers its students experiences through externships, co-curricular activities, and work with the private bar.
The sports teams of MC participate in various sports such as Baseball, Basketball, Softball, Tennis, and Soccer. Their sports teams are known as Choctaws.
