Modesto Junior College

Modesto Junior College, or MJC, is a community college located in Central Valley Modesto, California, United States. MJC is one of the oldest community colleges in the state. It was founded in 1921 to serve the first junior college district established under a State Legislature Enabling Act. The number of students who transfer from MJC to a four-year university is among the best in the nation.

MJC offers associate degrees in diverse areas of study. The campus is located 90 miles from San Francisco. The college is home to a natural history museum. MJC also has many student clubs and organizations. International Student Program (ISP) aims to offer support services and activities for foreign students.

The college is a member of CCCAA. The sports teams are nicknamed the Pirates. Some of the notable alumni of MJC are George Lucas, creator of the Star Wars saga; Hiram Fuller, professional basketball player; and Gino Marchetti, former defensive end for the Baltimore Colts.
