Overview

Monterey Institute of International Studies, also known as MIIS, was established in 1955 as the Monterey Institute of Foreign Studies, by Gaspard Weiss, Dwight Morrow Junior and Remsen Bird. The focus of the school was to promote international understanding through the study of culture and language. MIIS offers a variety of degrees and certificates in international business, international policy studies, language and educational linguistics and translation and interpretation. Short term interpretation and translation courses, international policy certificate programs, 8-week ESL programs and intensive language programs are offered round the year.

Student clubs are active on campus and are funded by the Students Council. Some of the student clubs include Amnesty International, Campus Christian Fellowship, CASA-Community Action Social Awareness, Conflict Resolution association, Microfinance Club, Net Impact, Terrorism Studies and United Nations Club.
