Overview
Moore College of Art & Design is an independent college of art and design in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that was founded in 1848 by Sarah Worthington Peter. She named it Philadelphia School of Design for Women, and it was given its present name in 1989. It is distinguished as the first, as well as sole visual arts college in the country dedicated to women. On a global level there are only two such colleges including the Moore College of Art & Design.
Moore, as the college is popularly called, began with a single major - Textile Design. Today it offers undergraduate, graduate and post baccalaureate degrees in Fashion Design, Photography & Digital Arts, Art History, Art Education, Fine Arts, and Graphic Design to name some. It also offers continuing education programs.
The college houses The Galleries at Moore which is open to the public at no charge. It has a varied range of innovative exhibitions, publications and educational programs offering insights into the works both of emerging and established regional, national and international designers and artists.
