Overview

Morehead State University, also referred to as MSU or Morehead, is a public, coeducational university located in Morehead, Kentucky, United States. It was founded in 1887 as Morehead Normal School. It was renamed several times: in 1926 as Morehead State Normal School and Teachers College, in 1930 as Morehead State Teachers College, in 1948 as Morehead State College, in 1968 as Morehead State University.

MSU is organized into the following colleges:

  • Caudill College of Humanities
  • College of Business
  • College of Education
  • College of Science and Technology

Morehead State University's campus is home to a number of fraternities/sororities including Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Rho, Sigma Sigma Sigma, Theta Chi, and Tau Kappa Epsilon. A high percentage of students are members of the Greek letter organizations.

The University's sports teams are called the Eagles. The mascot of MSU is the Eagle. The University sponsors more than 16 different sports for men and women and a cheerleading squad.

Some notable alumni of MSU are Chuck Woolery, American game show host; Nelson Allen, former Kentucky state Senator; Chris Offutt, writer; James A. Turner, Executive Director, Verizon Communications Inc.; and Dwain Messer, American country music singer.
