Overview
New York Career Institute was formed in 1941 as the School of Stenotype. Initially based in the midtown area, the school relocated in 1959 to Broadway near City Hall at the center of the city in order to be closer to the freelance reporting companies and state and federal courts. It was then renamed Stenotype Academy. In 1982, the academy received authorization to award an Associate in Occupational Studies degree and a Certificate in Court Reporting. It was renamed the New York Career Institute in 1998.
New York Career Institute offers programs designed for careers like paralegal/legal assistant, court reporting and medical office specialist. It is the sole college in New York City to offer an associate's degree in court reporting, paralegal studies and office sciences. The school offers financial assistance in the form of federal aid, vocational rehabilitation services, veterans benefits and a tuition assistance program.
