Overview

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, or NC A&T, was founded in 1891 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College. It was specifically established for the Colored Race and was renamed to Agricultural and Technical College of North Carolina in 1915. It gained university status in 1967 and adopted its current name. Presently, the university is a part of the University of North Carolina System. NC A&T is spread over 180 acres in Greensboro, North Carolina. The university offers more than 95 undergraduate degrees and around 50 master degrees. NC A&T is organized into the following academic units:

NC A&T has recognized several fraternities and sororities. Some of these Greek Organizations are the Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Phi Omega, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Omega Psi Phi, Kappa Alpha Psi, Zeta Phi Beta, Chi Eta Phi, Beta Phi Epsilon, Phi Beta Sigma, Iota Phi Theta, Tau Beta Sigma, and Sigma Gamma Rho.

NC A&T athletic teams are referred to as the Aggies and participate in the NCAA Division I. The university is a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, or MEAC.

North Carolina A & T provides on-campus housing for 2,598 of its 9,973 (full-time) students (as of 2009-2010). The school requires freshmen to live on campus.

Students may purchase a meal plan which includes 19 meals weekly.

Athletics

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for major sports.

The school offers financial aid for athletes. Of students receiving athletic financial aid, 122 male students received the aid (men were 61% of those receiving aid) and 77 women were awarded financial aid based on athletics (representing 39% of students receiving such aid) .
