Overview
North Dakota State University of Agriculture and Applied Sciences, more commonly referred to as North Dakota State University, or NDSU, is a land-grant public university in Fargo, North Dakota.
The university was founded in 1890 as North Dakota Agricultural College and received its present name in 1960.
NDSU is part of the North Dakota University System.
The main campus is spread over more than 250 acres--bordered by 19th Avenue to the North, University Drive to the East, and 12th Avenue to the South.
NDSU offers more than 350 separate academic options from bachelor degrees to the doctoral level.

NDSU has an active Greek life, which has been a part of the campus since 1913. There are more than 12 national fraternities and sororities.
The athletic teams, known as the Bisons, participated in the NCAA Division II level for many years. It is now a Division I program featuring 16 varsity sports.
Among NDSU's notable alumni are Mark Andrews and Milton R. Young, former U.S. Senators; Bob Backlund, former World Wrestling Federation champion; David Bernauer, former CEO, current chair of Walgreens; Alf Clausen, composer for "The Simpsons" and other TV programs and movies; Craig Dahl, Lamar Gordon, Tler Roehl, Isaac Snell and Phil Hansen, NFL players; Ravindra Khattree, academic statistician; Arthur A. Link, former governor of North Dakota; Mancur Olson, economist and social scientist; Gen. Charles F. Wald, former Deputy Commander of United States European Command; and Humayun Ahmed, Bangladeshi writer, filmmaker.

Athletics
School sports include football (Missouri Valley Conference), basketball (Mid-Continent Conference), baseball (Mid-Continent Conference), and track (Mid-Continent Conference).
