Oakwood College

Oakwood College is a historically black university located in Huntsville, Alabama, United States. It was founded in 1896 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church as Oakwood Industrial School. Later in 1904, it was renamed the Oakwood Manual Training School. The school became Oakwood Junior College in 1917 and Oakwood College in 1943. The college gained university status in 2008 and settled on its present name. The campus comprises more than 20 buildings spread across an area of over 1,100 acres.

Oakwood University is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. They are called the Ambassadors and Lady Ambassadors.

Some of the notable alumni of Oakwood University are John F. Street, 97th Mayor of Philadelphia; Ronald Brise, Florida State Representative; and Clifton Duncan Davis, American actor who played the lead role in That's My Mama in the 1970s.
