The college was named after the United Brethren in Christ's founder, Rev. Philip William Otterbein. Otterbein College offers its students various degrees and certificate programs in the fields of communication, business, accounting, education, economics, physics, astronomy, nursing, religion, and philosophy, among others. There are over 10 academic departments in the college.
Otterbein College has various clubs and organizations for students including the societies of Phi Alpha Theta, Accounting Club, Otterbein Christian Fellowship, Cardinal Dance Team, and Outdoor Adventure Club.
