It started offering doctorate level programs in 1987, and in 1989, it was renamed Pacifica Graduate Institute. Popularly referred to as Pacifica, the institute operates the 13-acre Lambert Road Campus, and the 35-acre Ladera Lane Campus, in Carpinteria, California.

Pacifica Graduate Institute grants the Master of Arts, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Programs of study are available in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, depth psychology, mythological studies, and engaged humanities.
