Overview

Paine College is based in Augusta, Georgia. This private, historically black, coeducational college was established as Paine Institute in 1883 by the leadership of the United Methodist Church and the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. The institute was renamed Paine College in 1903.

Paine College is a comprehensive liberal arts college offering Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree programs. It is organized into the following five divisions-

Paine College’s campus occupies an area of 57 acres. Its athletic teams are nicknamed the Lions, and compete in basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball and golf. Some of the notable alumni of the college include internationally acclaimed author and film writer Frank Yerby, NASA consultant and the first African American to earn a Ph.D. in Geology Mack Gipson, Jr., and Hip hop musician Pastor Troy.
