Overview

Pima Community College was established in 1969 as Pima College, on a 267-acre campus in the foothills of the Tucson Mountains of Arizona.

The school was established after the citizens of Pima County, Arizona, had approved by a large margin the formation of a junior college district three years earlier.

In 1972, the college was renamed Pima Community College.

Pima Community College now has six campuses as well as four learning/education centers. Academic programs include business, health-related, social service, applied arts technologies, information technology and education programs.

Throughout most of its history, the college has ranked among the 10 largest multi-campus community colleges in the nation, enrolling more than 70,000 students annually as of 2009.

PCC offers a number of grants and scholarships, such as the PCC Foundation Scholarships, the Chancellor's Recognition Scholarship, the PCC Student Grants Program and the Raytheon Scholars Program.

Noted alumni of Pima Community College include Jamie Varner, the mixed martial artist and WEC Champion; Efrain Escudero, Reality TV Star; D. J. Carrasco, pitcher for the Chicago White Sox; Abdi Abdirahman, long-distance runner; Erubiel Durazo, professional baseball player; Warren Faidley, storm chaser; Horacio Llamas, professional basketball player; and Nancy Turner, author.
