Overview
Portland Community College, also referred to as PCC, was established in 1961 as part of the adult education program of the local public school system. The Portland campus encompasses more than 900 acres of land. In addition, PCC has two other campuses. One campus is in Rock Creek and opened in 1976. The other campus is in Cascade and opened in 1971. The college also offers a number of centers throughout the metropolitan area.
Some of the academic departments of PCC include architectural design and drafting, biomedical engineering technology, computer applications and office systems, management and supervisory development, and veterinary technology.
The athletic teams of Portland Community College are known as the Panthers. The men’s and women's basketball teams compete in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC).
As of 2007, the ethnic backgrounds of PCC students are 75% Caucasian, 10% Hispanic, 9% Asian and Pacific Islander, 5% African American, and 1% Native American.
