The Alabama State Legislature founded Reid State Technical College, RSTC, in 1963 through a State statute. The college was established with the intent of providing local citizens with access to quality postsecondary education which would help create a trained work force for the area's employers, and assist in economic development. The main campus began on a 26-acre plot of land. Later RSTC established an off-site campus in Atmore.
Reid State Technical College offers certificates, diplomas and associate degree programs. Programs include building construction technology, computer information systems, office administration, and health careers and human services. Distance learning options are also available. The college maintains a placement office that helps current and former RSTC students find desired employment.
