Overview

Rhode Island School of Design, also known as RISD, is located in Providence, Rhode Island, United States. It was established in 1877 and directed by Metcalf until her death in 1895. Later, her daughter, Eliza Greene Metcalf Radeke, took over until her death in 1931.

RISD is a lively community of designers and artists. As of fall 2007, it enrolled 17 percent international students. The school offers more than 15 undergraduate majors and several programs in art and design. Every year, more than 1,000 undergraduate students enroll from all over the United States and from over 50 other countries.

RISD has an active student life with several clubs and organizations. The school has basketball, baseball, ice-hockey, and football teams.
