Rochester Institute Of Technology

Rochester Institute of Technology, also referred to as RIT, is a private, coeducational university located in Henrietta, New York, United States. It was established in 1829 as Rochester Athenaeum. In 1891, it merged with the Mechanics Institute to form Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute. In 1944, it changed its name to Rochester Institute of Technology. The main campus, with its associated schools and colleges, stretches over an area of 1300 acres of suburban land.

Rochester Institute of Technology is organized in the following schools, colleges and institutes, both in the U.S. and abroad:

RIT's campus is home to more than 20 Greek-letter fraternities and sororities. Six houses on campus are dedicated to these fraternities and sororities. Around 5% of the student community are members of these organizations.

The University sports teams are called the RIT Tigers. The official mascot is Ritchie the Tiger. The University sponsors baseball, basketball, crew, cross country, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, track & field, and wrestling among other sports.

Notable alumni of the University include David Egan, New York State Supreme Court Justice; Robert F. Bukay, Pulitzer Prize winner for photography in 1999; and Tom Curley, President and CEO, Associated Press.
