Overview

Salem State College, also known as SSC, is a four-year, public institution of higher learning located in the city of Salem, Massachusetts, United States. It was established in the year 1854. It was originally founded as the fourth Normal School in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The school's name was changed to Salem State College in the fall of 1960.

The college enrolls more than 9,000 students. It offers bachelor degrees, master degrees, MBA degrees, and post master certificates in more than 40 academic disciplines. SSC's campus consists of over 30 buildings and is spread across an area of more than 100 acres. It has five different campuses.

Many students of SSC have become famous. Some notable alumni are Demetrius J. Atsalis, member of the Mass. House of Representatives; Keith Knight, cartoonist; and David Willis, sportswriter. The college competes in the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference.
