Overview

Samuel Merritt University is located in Oakland, California. SMU was founded in 1909 as a hospital school of nursing through the legacy of Dr. Samuel Merritt, who left his Maine home to seek fortune in the west. The university offers bachelor’s, master’s, accelerated bachelor’s and doctoral level programs in several subjects, including occupational therapy, physical therapy and podiatric medicine. The college also runs a School of Nursing, which offers several degree programs in nursing courses.

SMU has an active campus life. Some of the clubs and organizations operating on campus include the Student Occupational Therapy Association, the International Healthcare Club, SMU green team, Men Allied for Nursing and Education and Alpha Gamma Kappa.
