Overview

San Antonio College or SAC was founded in September, 1925, as the University Junior College under the University of Texas. In fact, it is the oldest two-year public college in Texas. Presently, SAC is part of the Alamo Community College District. SAC was renamed to San Antonio Junior College in August, 1946, and adopted its present name in 1948. The college campus encompasses more than 35 acres near downtown San Antonio, Texas.

SAC provides several degree and certificate programs. The various academic departments are business management, radio-TV and film, public administration, and medical assisting. In January 2008, San Antonio College was awarded a rating of “exemplary”, by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), in 11 academic programs.

There are many active student clubs and organizations in SAC. Some of these are the Astronomy Club, Baptist Student Ministries, Black Student Alliance, Chinese Culture Club, International Students Associatio, and The P.E.O.P.L.E. Club.
