Overview

Sarah Lawrence College, also known as SLC, is located in Bronxville, New York, United States. It was established in 1926. It was originally a women’s college founded by a real-estate businessman named William Van Duzer Lawrence. He named the college after his wife, Sarah. It became coeducational in 1968. The first president of the college was Marion Coats. SLC is beautifully nestled in an area of more than 40 acres. SLC was named College of the Year in 2000 in "The Best College for You," which is published by Time Magazine and The Princeton Review.

SLC is home to many student organizations including Amnesty International, Community Appreciating Positively Excellent Superheroes, Club di Cultura Italiana, Dance Performance Club, Folk Music Club, Hookah Club, Language Partnerships, Sarah Lawrence Christian Union, South East Asian Organization, and Swing Dance Club.

SLC participates in a wide variety of sports including basketball, volleyball, swimming, equestrian, tennis, crew, and softball. The official mascot is known as the Gryphon.
