Overview
Savannah State University, commonly referred to as SSU, is located in Savannah, Georgia, United States. Historically, it is Georgia’s oldest public black university. SSU was established in the year 1890 as a consequence of the Second Morrill Land Grant Act. More than 3,000 students enroll in the university on an annual basis. Savannah State University has three degree granting colleges under it. These are the:
- College of Business Administration
- College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences
- College of Sciences and Technology
The students of Savannah State University publish an on-campus newspaper called the "Tiger’s Roar." They also operate a radio station called WHCJ (FM). The universoty's athletics department fields both men's and women's teams in baseball, basketball, football, tennis, cross country, softball, and golf.

Athletics
School sports include football (Division I Independents), basketball (Independent Southeast Region), baseball (South Atlantic Conference), and track (South Atlantic Conference).
