Overview

School of Visual Arts, also referred to as SVA, is located in Manhattan, New York City, United States. It was established in 1947 as the Cartoonists and Illustrators School. It is among the top independent colleges of art and design in the United States. The founders of the college were Burne Hogarth and Silas H. Rhodes. SVA is a member unit of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design. Every year it offers enrollment to more than 3,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students who represent over 40 states and more than 50 countries.

School of Visual Arts offers bachelor degrees, master degrees, and art history courses in the fields of fine arts, cartooning, graphic design, illustration, computer art, photography, and video and related media. Continuing education programs are also available at SVA.

Student Art Exhibitions are held at SVA’s own galleries. The college has an on-campus radio station called WSVA, and a student-run newspaper called the “Visual Opinion.” Student clubs and activities are overseen by the Visual Arts Student Association.
