Overview

South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, also known as Mines or SDSM&T, is a public school of higher learning located in Rapid City, South Dakota, United States. It was established in 1885 as Dakota School of Mines. SDSM&T is organized into the following two academic departments and colleges:

  • College of Engineering
  • College of Science and Letters

The college campus spreads across an area of nearly 120 acres. SDSM&T offers degrees in over 16 science and engineering fields, as well as 4 doctorate programs and 12 master degree programs.

SDSM&T is home to several clubs and organizations. Some of them are the Society of Automotive Engineers International, Hardrocker Climbing Club, Students Against Drinking and Driving, and Chinese Student and Scholar Association.

The college has an active Greek life. Some of the Greek organizations are Alpha Chi Sigma, Alpha Omega Epsilon, and Order of Omega. The college's sports teams are nicknamed the Hardrockers.

Athletics

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Dakota Athletic Conference for major sports.
