Overview

Southeastern Louisiana University, also known as Southeastern, is a state-funded, public university located in the city of Hammond, Louisiana, United States. It was originally established in 1925 as Hammond Junior College by Linus A. Sims, principal of Hammond High School. It achieved the status of university in 1970. The university enrolls more than 15,000 students, representing over 40 states and more than 65 countries.

Southeastern offers more than 25 academic departments and programs in diverse areas of study. The university is divided into the following academic units.

Southeastern's athletic teams participate in the NCAA Division I (FCS for football) in the Southland Conference. They are nicknamed the Lions. The Greek Community at Southeastern is composed of more than 15 international Greek letter organizations.
