Overview

Southern Connecticut State University, also known as SCSU or Southern, is one of four state universities in Connecticut. It is located in New Haven, Connecticut, United States. It was founded in 1893 and is the third-oldest campus in the Connecticut State University system. Southern offers a wide variety of degrees and programs in diverse areas of study. The university is organized into the following academic divisions:

SCSU’s atheltic teams are nicknamed the Fighting Owls. They participate in the NCAA Division II. It has a student run radio station known as WSIN. The newspaper publication of the university is called The Southern News- SCSU. The university has an active Greek life with several fraternities and sororities.

Students may purchase a meal plan which includes 19 meals weekly.

Athletics

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Northeast 10 Conference for major sports.

The school offers financial aid for athletes. Of students receiving athletic financial aid, 110 male students received the aid (men were 58% of those receiving aid) and 80 women were awarded financial aid based on athletics (representing 42% of students receiving such aid) .
