Overview

Southern Utah University was established in 1897 as the Branch Normal School. It became the Branch Agricultural College in 1913 and the College of Southern Utah in 1953. It was again renamed as the Southern Utah State College in 1969. SUU gained university status in 1991 and adopted its present name at that time. It is situated in Cedar City, Utah on more than 125 acres of land. The university is organized into the following schools and colleges:

  • School of Continuing & Professional Studies

The university has recognized four Greek service organizations on campus. These include Sigma Nu, Alpha Phi, Sigma Chi and Delta Psi Omega. However, there are some other on-campus Greek service organizations which are not recognized by the United Greek Council. Some of these are the Zeta Xi Zeta, Psi Mu Mu and Alpha Theta Beta.

Room and Board

Students may purchase a meal plan which includes 19 meals weekly.

Athletics

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Mid-Continent Conference for major sports.

The school offers financial aid for athletes. Of students receiving athletic financial aid, 116 male students received the aid (men were 56% of those receiving aid) and 90 women were awarded financial aid based on athletics (representing 44% of students receiving such aid) .
