Overview

Southwestern Assemblies of God University, also known as SAGU, traces its origin to three separate Bible schools. The Southwestern Bible School, founded in 1927 in Enid, Oklahoma; the Shield of Faith Bible School, established in 1931 in Amarillo, Texas; and the Southern Bible College, founded in 1931 in Goose Creek, Texas. In 1935, the Shield of Faith Bible School moved to Fort Worth, Texas. In 1940, it merged with the Southern Bible College. The name of the school was changed to South Central Bible Institute. In 1941, Southwestern Bible School merged with the institute and was renamed as Southwestern Bible Institute. It moved to its current location in Waxahachie, Texas in 1943. It gained university status in 1994 and adopted its current name.

SAGU is divided into the following schools and colleges:

  • Harrison School of Graduate Studies
  • School of Distance Education

SAGU has several student clubs and organizations which are based on academics, religion, politics, culture, professional, and special interest. The Student Congress governs these student organizations and also organizes several on-campus special events such as Homecoming Coronation, Special Chapels, All School Fellowship, and Christmas and Valentines Banquets.
