Overview

Spelman College and is located in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. It was established in 1881 as Atlanta Baptist Female Seminary and received its collegiate charter in 1924.

The college campus comprises of more than 20 buildings and spreads across an area of 39 acres. It offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in several fields of study including biochemistry, religion, art, and economics.

Spelman College has more than 80 student organizations including music ensembles, choral groups, drama/theater groups, dance groups, a jazz band, and intramural sports. The school’s student body is diverse and has more than 2,000 students from 15 foreign countries and 41 states.

Some of the honor societies of Spelman College are Beta Kappa Chi, Mortar Board, Golden Key Club, and Phi Beta Kappa. The college's mascot is the Jaguar.
