St. John’s College at Annapolis, Maryland was originally established in 1696 as the King William’s School. The college came to be known by its current name when the state of Maryland chartered it in 1784. It was a military college during most parts of the 19th century but from 1951 the college was opened to women as well. The college has another campus at Santa Fe. St. John’s College offers the student with programs leading to a bachelor’s degree. The programs cover areas of study such as philosophy, theology, political science, mathematics, languages, science, and music. The college also has a graduate school which offers master’s degree programs in areas such as liberal arts and eastern classics.
St. John’s College has an active student life comprising of clubs and organizations such as Theater Club, Film Society, and Drama Groups. The college has a student newspaper known as 'the Gadfly'. It also publishes other student magazines called the Collegian and Energeia.
