Overview
St. John's University, or STJ, was established in 1870 by the Vincentian Fathers. The university moved to its current location in Jamaica, Queens, in the 1960s. The main campus includes more than 100 acres in New York City. In 2001, STJ merged with the College of Insurance. Presently, the university has campuses in Staten Island, Oakdale, Manhattan, Paris, and Rome. STJ is organized into a number of academic units including:

STJ has officially recognized several Greek fraternities and sororities which are governed by the African & Latino Fraternal/Sororal Alliance, Interfraternity Council, and Panhellenic Council.
St. John's has more than 150,000 alumni (as of 2008) and 86% of them presently reside in the Greater New York Metropolitan Area.
