Overview

Stephen F. Austin State University, also known as SFA, is a public university located in Nacogdoches, Texas, United States. It was founded as a teachers' college in 1923. The university was named after one of Texas' founding fathers, Stephen F. Austin. The main campus is spread across an area of more than 640 acres. The university offers more than 120 areas of study including over 80 undergraduate majors and more than 50 graduate degrees. SFA is organized into the following academic divisions:

SFA fields various sports teams. Its men's athletic teams are called Lumberjacks, and the women's teams are known as Ladyjacks. They participate in the NCAA Division I in the Southland Conference.
