Overview

Suffolk University is a private university located in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. The university was founded in 1906 by Gleason Archer, Sr. as the Suffolk School of Law. It expanded during the 1930s, adding business and liberal arts programs. Suffolk University is also home to the Beacon Hill Institute, which is a "free-market think-tank." The university confers a variety of certificates and degrees to students. It is organized into the following academic divisions:

  • Sawyer Business School
  • Suffolk College of Arts and Sciences
  • Suffolk University Law School

Suffolk enrolls more than 8,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Many students of the university have become famous. Some notable alumni are Thomas J. Lane, U.S. representative from Massachusetts; James Bamford, journalist and author; and Dan Harrington, world renowned poker player.
