Overview

The State University of New York at Geneseo was originally founded in 1871 as the Wadsworth Normal and Training School. It is one of the member colleges of the State University of New York, and is located in Geneseo, New York. In 1948, SUNY Geneseo became a state liberal arts college. More than 5,000 graduate and postgraduate students enroll in this college every year. The campus sits on 220 acres of land.

SUNY Geneseo offers graduate and master degree programs in various fields of study, along with research grants, scholarships and study abroad programs. The departments at Geneseo are Asian and American studies, anthropology, biology, biochemistry, communication, English, foreign languages, geography, history, mathematics and women’s studies.

SUNY Geneseo has chapters of Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest academic honor society in the United States. Apart from this, there are several other student organizations. Students are members of fraternities like Alpha Chi Rho, Delta Kappa Tau, Phi Sigma Xi, Sigma Tau Psi, Sigma Nu Chi, Phi Kappa Chi and Zeta Beta Xi, as well as sororities like Alpha Delta Epsilon, Alpha Kappa Phi, Phi Eta Psi, Phi Lambda Chi, Alpha Omega Pi, Phi Kappa Pi, Sigma Delta Tau and Sigma Kappa, among others.
