Overview
Westchester Community College is a two-year public college sponsored by Westchester County, New York, and SUNY. It was founded in 1946 as the New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in White Plains. It was designated a community college in 1957. The campus was built on the former estate of John A. Hartford in Valhalla, New York. It covers more than 350 acres.
Westchester enrolls more than 10,000 full-time and part-time college credit students. The college offers more than 50 associate and certificate programs. It provides three types of associate degrees in over 35 subject areas. The associate degrees offered are an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and Associate in Applied Science.
Westchester Community College’s athletic department sponsors more than 7 different intercollegiate athletic teams in various sports. The sports teams are members of Region XV of the National Junior College Athletic Association and the Mid Hudson Conference.
