Swarthmore College is located in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, United States. It was founded in the year 1864. A committee of Quakers, who were Philadelphia Yearly Meeting members, played a vital role in the establishment of this college. The campus spreads over an area of more than 390 acres. Students can obtain degrees and certificates in various areas of study including astronomy, computer science, educational studies, mathematics and statistics, and political science.
Swarthmore College has over 100 chartered student clubs and organizations including Amnesty International, Catholic Newman Community, College Democrats, Folk Dance Club, Learning for Life, Forum for Free Speech, and Essence of Soul. Students publish a weekly newspaper known as "The Phoenix."
