Syracuse University

Syracuse University, or SU, is a private, research university located in Syracuse, New York. It was founded as a university in 1870. A 2008 survey, in the Academic Ranking of World Universities, placed Syracuse University in the top 100 world universities in social sciences. SU offers a wide variety of degrees and programs in diverse fields of study. It is organized into several schools and colleges, which include:

Housing and Meals

Syracuse University provides on-campus housing for 7,944 of its 16,670 (full-time) students (as of 2008-2009). The school requires freshmen to live on campus.

Students may purchase a meal plan which includes 21 meals weekly.

Athletics

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Big East Conference for major sports.

The school offers financial aid for athletes. Of students receiving athletic financial aid, 178 male students received the aid (men were 53% of those receiving aid) and 158 women were awarded financial aid based on athletics (representing 47% of students receiving such aid) .
