Overview

A comprehensive public research, state-related university, Temple University was established in 1884 by Dr. Russell Conwell. Temple College became a fully accredited university and was renamed Temple University in 1907.

Students can choose from eight campuses and 300 academic degrees. Located just one-and-a-half miles north of Center City Philadelphia, the Main Campus is close to the artistic, musical, intellectual and cultural scene of the country's sixth largest city.

A campus in suburban Ambler offers programs in community and regional planning, horticulture, landscape architecture and other disciplines. The Tyler School of the Arts relocated from Elkins Park to a state-of-the-art facility on Main Campus. Students can take graduate and noncredit courses at the university's Fort Washington location.

A large study abroad program has campuses in Rome and Tokyo and programs in London, Beijing, Paris, Mumbai and other sites. In addition, Temple University enrolls students from dozens of foreign countries

Street, Mayor of Philadelphia; Natalie Hinderas, composer and pianist; and Bill Mensch, computer scientist.

Temple offers a wide variety of sports and other clubs as well as several Greek Letter Organizations, governed by the Multicultural Greek Council.

Athletics

School sports include football (Mid-American Conference), basketball (Atlantic 10 Conference), baseball (Atlantic 10 Conference), and track (Atlantic 10 Conference).

The school offers financial aid for athletes. Of students receiving athletic financial aid, 187 male students received the aid (men were 52% of those receiving aid) and 175 women were awarded financial aid based on athletics (representing 48% of students receiving such aid) .
