Overview
Tennessee State University, also known as TSU, is a comprehensive, urban, coeducational, land-grant university. It was founded in 1912 as the Agricultural and Industrial State Normal School. It was granted university status by the Tennessee State Board of Education in 1958. The main campus consists of more than 60 buildings spread across an area of 4450 acres. TSU enrolls more than 10,000 students every year.

TSU has an active Greek life. There are several fraternities and sororities on campus including Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Phi Omega, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Omega Psi Phi. Their sports teams are nicknamed the Tigers.
